Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC)

On January 27th the Federal Government released its fiscal 2009-2010 budget.

HRTC

The HRTC will provide a 15% income tax credit on eligible home renovation projects for work performed and/or goods acquired after January 27, 2009 and before February 01, 2010.
For further information, please visit the Government of Canada
The 15% credit may be claimed for the 2009 taxation year on eligible expenditures: exceeding $1000, but not more than $10,000.
This equates to tax relief up to $1350 for home owners, including cottages & condominiums that are used for personal purpose.
The HRTC can be claimed on renovations to dwelling and/or property (with some exceptions, e.g. routine cleaning/maintenance, purchases of furniture/appliance).
Products, materials, permits, trade services, and associated direct expenses will qualify for the credit.
